Man beaten to death by wife

Varanasi, Sep 2 (UNI) A man who was heavily beaten by his wife on August 28 last succumbed to wounds in the Cholapur area here today.

Magan Patel (36) was beaten by his wife Arti in the Bhatpurwa village on August 28 last after he denied her permission to go to her brother's house on Raksha Bandhan, police said.

Later, Arti took the services of a quack to unsuccessfully treat wounded Magan. But Magan succumbed to wounds today.

Sudan in talks on return of expelled CARE envoy

KHARTOUM, Sep 2 (Reuters) Sudan is in talks with US-based aid agency CARE on the possible return of its country director, who was expelled on August 27, a Sudanese official said TOday. Japanese stocks open down 0.4 per cent

Tokyo, Sep 3: Tokyo stocks opened down 0.4 per cent on Monday after government data showed Japanese companies reduced spending on plant and equipment by 4.9 per cent in April-June, although economists had expected a rise. Investors moved to take profits on stocks that posted big gains in the previous session, with electronic components maker TDK Corp down 1.2 percent after rallying nearly 5 per cent on Friday. The benchmark Nikkei average was down 0.4 per cent or 72.49 points at 16,496.60.....
