J&K edge Haryana, Mahilpur rout Chattisgarh in Challenge Cup

Chandigarh, Sept 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (group C) and Mahilpur Football Academy of Punjab (group B) registered victories in contrasting styles on the third day of the fifth Administrator's Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament for Under-17 at the Sector 17 Football Stadium and Sector 42 Sports Complex Football Ground here today.

Jammu and Kashmir prevailed over Haryana Football Association 2-1 while Mahilpur FA routed Chattisgarh Football Academy 7-0.

Jammu and Kashmir launched their offence from the word go and forged ahead in the seventh minute when Mohd Hussain dribbled past a couple of Haryana FA defenders before unleashing a powerful shot from the right flank. J-K led 1-0 at half time.

On resumption, Haryana neutralised the lead through Ravi who scored with a powerful grounder in a solo efforts in the 45th minute. J-K snatched the winner in the 59th minute when David converted a pass from Tahir from the right flank with a fine header.

In a one-sided match Mahilpur Football Academy bombarded Chattisgarh Football Association by 7-0. The highlight of the match was a brilliant performance by Rajinder Singh who scored four goals (20th, 41st, 69th, 75th).

Paramjit Singh scored a brace (36th and 73rd). Tarun Taneja had open the account for the winners in the 19th minute.

In the morning session, state-run Chandigarh Football Academy got a walk-over from Andhra Pradesh Football Association in their group A fixture.

Meanwhile, The group D match between Cantonment Board Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Cantonment and Sanjay Public School Academy was washed out. The match will be rescheduled. Heavy rains in the afternoon forced the organisers to shift the JK-Haryana Football Association match, scheduled at 1500 hrs at the Sector 17 Football Stadium, to Sector 42 Sports Complex.

Defence advocates withdraw their 'vakalatnama'

Body of a US National found at star hotel in city

Hyderabad, Sept 3 (UNI) Police has recovered body of a US national, who allegedly committed suicide, in his room at ITC Kakatiya Sherton star hotel in the city today. Police said the body was identified as Daniel Edward MCNulty (41), resident of New York. a liquor bottle and remanants of vomit were found beside the body in the room.
