Intl Safety Convention to begin on Sept 5

New Delhi, Sept 3: To focus on issues of safety and quality in all engineering aspects in various fields including construction, mining, transport, power and industries, a three-day 'International Safety Convention 2007' will be held here from September 5, 2007.

''More than 300 leading engineers, architects, town planners, designers, building material manufacturers and administrators are expected to take part in the event which will be inaugurated by Union Heavy Industry Minister Kanti Singh,'' said a statement.

The event is being organised by the Institute of Engineers and Safety and Quality forum.

''The aim is to focus on issues related to safety and quality and advising governments, state and local bodies on steps necessary to ensure safety in engineering aspects across various fields,'' said Institute of Engineers Chairman G S Yadava.

The theme of the convention is 'Industrial Safety and Socio Economic Growth' and subjects discussed will include industrial safety, construction and building safety, energy safety, fire safety, food safety and safety standards and certifications,'' said Safety Convention Co-Chairman Pradeep Chaturvedi.

Palm tops for TTEs for feed on vacant berths

New Delhi, Feb 26:  Palm tops will be given to Railway Travelling Ticket Examiners(TTEs) so that they can feed to the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), the information about berths/seats falling vacant at the eleventh hour.Under the existing system, reservation charts are brought out a few hours before the departure of trains. Often due to unforeseen circumstances, several passengers with reservations do not travel, resulting in many berths remaining vacant.Since this information is not fed into the PRS.....
