Honour for Pondy teachers

Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) Two teachers from this union territory have been selected for the national award for best teachers.

Sanarpet Government Primary School Headmaster K Somu and Sinnatha Government Girls Higher secondary School Lecturer S Manivelan were chosen for the honour.

Announcing this to the press here this evening, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan said two teachers at the primary level and two at the middle school level were selected for the Dr Radhakrishnan Award while the Chief Minister's Special Award went to one language teacher, four women teachers, one technical teacher and one French teacher.

The Education Minister's Zonal Award would be given to six teachers in Puducherry Region,two in Karaikal and one each in Mahe and Yanam Regions.

Call to fight against Chemalapura plant

Mysore, Sep 3 (UNI) Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah today called upon the farmers to fight against the proposed Rs 5,500 crore Chamalapura Thermal Plant.
