Govt committed to development of Chamarajanagar district: CM

Gundlupet, Karnataka, Sep 3 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said the government was committed to implement comprehensive development programme in backward Chamarajanagara district.

Speaking after launching Rs 75 crore development programmes in this town, he said he had broke the jinx that no Chief Minister dared to.

''Owing to wrong belief that they lose their chair if they visit Chamarajanagara, no Chief Minister visited this district for the last 20 years. But our government had broken the myth and will take development works in the district to a new plane,'' he said.

He regretted that even after being made a separate district, Chamarajanagara remained most backward. His government had launched several programmes like drinking water supply, tourism and housing projects in the district. Government will sanction 23,000 Ahsrya houses for the poor in Kollegal, Yelandur and Gundlupet taluks.

Referring to the village stay and janata darshan concepts, he said despite criticism, he had succeeded in feeling the pulse of poor in remote villages and was making honest efforts to change the lives of the villagers. ''Even after my term as Chief Minister, I will continue village stays programmes but in a different style.

Mr Kumraswamy said the state had taken a leap in education with the opening of 184 new first grade colleges during the last 19 months, while only 164 colleges had come to existence during the last 60 years. ''What Congress could not do in 50 years, we have done it an year-and-half,'' he claimed.

Unleashing a scathing attack on political foe Siddramaiah, the Chief Minister said the Congress leader make statements without any facts or figures. Despite 'failing' to deliver while he was the finance minister for seven years he made criticisms without any basis.
