Girl jumps into river Jhelum, body of boy recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 3 (UNI) A girl jumped into the Jhelum river while the body of a boy was recovered in the Kashmir valley today, official sources said.

The Body of a ninth class student Hilal Ahmad Ganie was recovered from an orchard at village Saidpora in Shopian district.

The sources said an unidentified girl jumped into river Jhelum at Nawa Kadal in the downtown city. Efforts were on to fish out her body, they added.

Despite fatwa by muslim ulmas against committing suicide, declaring it an unislamic act, people, mostly women, continued to take extreme steps in the Kashmir valley.

Officials said 315 cases of suicide, attempt to suicide and abetment to suicide were registered in the state in 2005 as compared to 295 in 2006.

They said insecurity, unemployment, family discord, failed love affairs, failure in examinations and stress were some of the main causes of people taking the extreme step.

Suicide was essentially a social problem and could be controlled when the people actively come forward in this regard and join hands with administrative and voluntary groups, sources said.

Rathwa announces slew of measures for Kheda stations

Nadiad, Sep 3 (UNI) Announcing a slew of measures for the upkeep of railway stations in Kheda district here yesterday, Minster of State for Railways Naranbhai Rathwa said that Barejadi-Kanjari railway station will be allocated Rs 4 crore for improving its infrastructural facilities. Doctors to wait for 2 months before launching agitation

Aizawl, Sep 3 (UNI) The Mizoram Government Doctors' Association(MGDA) has agreed to wait for two more months for the Cabinet to solve their pay anomalies. An MGDA press release issued here today said, ''Considering the the inconveniences caused to the public, we have decided to wait for two months as per the Cabinet's assurance to solve our pay anomalies.
