Fleeing lorry fatally knocks down chasing Policeman

Hyderabad, Sep 3 (UNI) A police Sub-Inspector (SI) was run over and killed by a lorry when he tried to stop it at Nampally area early today.

Police said Saroonagar Assistance Commissioner of Police asked Malakpet Sub-Inspector I Madhava Reddy to apprehend the lorry. The latter got into his jeep and chased the lorry.

Not able to catch up with the lorry, the SI took a lift from a motorbike rider and managed to overtake the lorry.

But the driver of the lorry knocked down the SI and sped away.

Mr Reddy, who sustained serious head injuries, was rushed to a Corporate hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have launched a hunt to nab the driver.

Animal activist decries ill-treatment on dogs

Aizawl, Sep 3 (UNI) Animal rights activist N W Laldingliana today condemned the manner in which dogs are butchered. Mizoram Chapter of People for Animals President Laldingliana said here that he had filed a complaint, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against the ill-treatment meted out to dogs. In his complaint, he stated that dogs were forced into sacks, handled roughly and mouths were gagged before being butchered in dog meat shops. Animal Welfare Board of India secretary.....

Lowering of temperature made the day comfortable in Patna

Patna, Sep 3 (UNI) People of the city and its surrounding areas today felt relieved after the temperature fell to 31 degrees Celsius. Meteorological officials said that the day's maximum temperature was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius while the minimum was pegged at 25 degrees Celsius. The maximum relative humidity was recorded 70 per cent. Meanwhile, the Met office had predicted that the sky would remain partly cloudy and there might be one or two spells of a light.....

Andaman administration suspends recruitment drive

Port Blair, Sep 3 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has suspended its controversial recruitment process of ''Work Charge Beldera'' and ''Work Charge Khalasia'' following a large number of complaints and media reports. The suspension orders were released at the directive of Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh.
