Eight militants nabbed by troops, police

Imphal, Sep 3 (UNI) Eight militants belonging to four different organisations were nabbed in six separate incidents by troops and police during the last 24 hours.

The PRO of Assam Rifles today said based on specific intelligence reports about movement of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), the 34 AR launched operations from September one onward at Thoubal district.

During the operations carried out by different units of troops, four militants, including a woman, were nabbed. Troops got a major success yesterday as one PREPAK (GS) cadre was nabbed and one 9 mm pistol with magazine, five live rounds and IED explosive weighing 500 gm were recovered from him.

The cadre was identified as Captain Chingakham Mamimohan.

In another incident, troops of 21 AR nabbed a cadre of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and another cadre of PREPAK at Thoubal district, he said.

A woman, Rita Devi, who was working overground for People's Liberation Army (PLA) was nabbed by 4 and 14 AR and an AK 47 with two magazines and 137 rounds was recovered.

Police said Imphal West police nabbed Apam Vashum, Secretary judiciary (civil wing) of NSCN(IM) from Assembly road yesterday.

His assistant, Rungsing was also nabbed. The Imphal East police also nabbed two cadres of NSCN(IM) from Hatta.

HIV infections hit record high in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Sep 3 (Reuters) HIV infections soared to a record high in Hong Kong in the second quarter of 2007 and government doctors said they found a worrying cluster of new infections among homosexual men. The government reported 111 new HIV infections between April and June this year, up from 91 in the first quarter. Of the new infections uncovered from April to June, 35 were homosexual men, underlining the vulnerability of the group which has seen a steady rise.....

No swimming costumes for APEC leaders photo

SYDNEY, Sep 3 (Reuters) The 21 Asia-Pacific leaders gathering this week in Sydney, a city reknowned for its beach lifestyle, can stop pulling in their stomachs -- they will not be forced to wear swimming costumes for the official photograph. At the end of each Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit, leaders pose for a photograph in a costume that represents the host nation.
