Cricket betting racket busted, one bookie arrested

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a racket of betting on the fifth cricket one dayer between India and England and arrested a bookie in this connection from Subhash Nagar in West Delhi.

Manish Kapoor was arrested yesterday afternoon when he was indulging in betting on the India-England one dayer at his house in Subhash Nagar.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that he belongs to a wealthy family of Delhi and had been indulging in cricket betting since the start of the one day series between India and England.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Delhi Public Gambling Act.

Journalists sentenced to jail in defamation case

Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) A court today awarded jail terms to three journalists and two publisher-printers for publishing a defamatory article and interview. Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (customs) Suresh Chandra passed this order after admitting the complaint of senior IAS officer Anant Kumar Singh, the then district magistrate of Muzaffarnagar. 11 injured in Sikh-Sacha Sauda clash in Punjab, 33 booked

Mansa, Sep 3 (UNI) Eleven persons including two women were injured in a clash between followers of the Sirsa-based Sacha Sauda and Sikhs in Alampur Mandra village, 10 kms from here today. According to police sources, the injured included seven Dera supporters. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be serious. Moderate rains in 30 talukas of Guj

Gandhinagar, Sep 3 (UNI) Moderate rainfall was recorded in 30 talukas of Gujarat in the past 24 hours with Dhari in Amreli receiving 50 mm of rainfall and Chotila in Surendranagar receiving 46 mm of rainfall.
