Country's exports up 18% in July

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Country's exports went up by 18.52 per cent to 12,494.11 million dollars in July-2007 from 10,542.14 million dollars in July 2006.

However, in rupee terms, the increase was merely 3.10 per cent to Rs 50,493.57 crore, an official statement said today.

Country's imports during July-2007 also registered an increase of 20.40 per cent to 17,508.63 million dollars from 14,542.21 million dollars in July-2006. In rupee terms, the increase was just 4.74 per cent.

Oil imports during July went up by 8.75 per cent to 5,048.33 million dollars from 4,642.31 million dollars during the corresponding month last year.

Non-oil imports at 12,460.30 million dollars were higher by 25.86 per cent from 9,899.90 million dollars during the comparable months of the two years, it added.

Institute gives catamarans to fishermen's SHG

Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) A Chennai-based private institution donated two plastic catamarans to a fishermen's Self-Help Group at Thengaithittu here. Talking to newspersons here today, Murugappa Chettiyar Research Institute Director Seshadri said the catamarans were given on an experimental basis. The fishermen who use it would have to give a fortnightly report on it's functioning. The eight metre-long and 1.25 metre-wide catmarans had a life of 50 years and cost Rs 35,000 each, he said. RBI asks banks to strenghten customer service committees

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) The Reserve Bank wants all banks in the country to strengthen their branch level customer service committees -- a mechanism to ensure formal communication between banks and customers -- in which the involvement of customers should be ensured. Mumbai, Sep 3: Qatar Airways Cargo has expanded its international operations with the introduction of a third aircraft into its freighter fleet and the launch of seven new cargo-only destinations.
