CMC denies arrest of its student in Hyd blasts case

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Sep 3 (UNI) The Christian Medical College here today refuted reports in a section of the media that one of its girl students was arrested for her involvement in the August 25 Hyderabad twin bomb blasts.

Addressing newspersons here, CMC Director George M Chandy termed ''false'', the reports that a second year student of the college was arrested for the terrorist act.

''We wish to categorically state that we do not have any such student in the medical, nursing or allied health science courses in CMC, Vellore,'' Dr Chandy and college Principal Dr Jayaprakash Muliyil, who was also present, said.

However, if the police department sought any information from the college in this regard, the institution would extend all cooperation, Dr Chandy said.

The twin blasts that rocked 'Lumbini Park' and 'Gokul Chat' in the heart of Hyderabad claimed 43 lives and left many more injured.

US to remove NKorea from terrorism list

Seoul, Sept 3: North Korea said today the United States has agreed to remove it from its list of countries that support terrorism, a move long-sought by Pyongyang to better its status with the outside world. Russian strategic bombers run Arctic exercise

MOSCOW, Sept 3 (Reuters) Twelve Russian strategic bombers will take part in an Arctic exercise today and tomorrow including tactical launches of cruise missiles, an air force spokesman said. He did not specify where the exercise was taking place but said TU-95MC bombers would take off from five air bases stretching from the Volga River city of Engels to Anadyr on the Chukotka Peninsula overlooking the United States. ''The planes will also practise mid-air refuelling from Il-78 transport planes,'' the spokesman.....

India secure victory to keep series alive

LONDON, Sept 3 (Reuters) An unbeaten 91 by England captain Paul Collingwood could not prevent India from securing a 38-run victory in their rain interrupted fifth one-dayer at Headingley in Leeds.
