Centre issues security alert on Janamashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) The Centre has issued a security alert to states asking them to step up vigil during the coming Janamashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi festivals in view of the recent twin blasts in Hyderabad.

The Home Ministry in an advisory to all state governments has asked them up to step up surveillance and enhance deployment of security forces for keeping an extra vigil in view of Janamashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi festivals, a ministry spokesman said today.

The states have been asked to keep a special vigil at religious places like temples and where large congregations of people are expected during the festivals.

The alert assumes significance in view of the twin blasts in Hyderabad on August 25, in which 44 people were killed and scores injured.

ISRO PR Director Krishna Murthy cremated

Bangalore, Sep 3 (UNI) The body of ISRO Publications and Public Relations Director S Krishna Murthy, who succumbed to his injuries in a road accident in Tirupati on September 1, was cremated here today. Nawanshahar distt to be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Amritsar, Sep 3 (UNI) The Punjab government has proposed to change the name of Nawanshahar district to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, in memory of the great martyr. A proposal in this context has been sent by the state government to the central government, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal disclosed here today. Khatkar Kalan, the native village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh falls in this district. The state government is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on September 28.....

CPI(M) to organise conference over Sachar committee recommendations

Bhopal, Sep 3 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh CPI(M) is organising a one-day state-level conference on September 8 over their demand regarding implementation of recommendations of the Sachar Committee.
