Birla Cement's production up by 7.32 per cent

Mumbai, Sep 3 (UNI) Cement major Aditya Birla Group's cement production has moved up by 7.32 per cent for the period April-August 2007 at 128.02 lakh metric tonnes as against 119.29 lakh mt in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The dispatches grew by 6.88 per cent at 127.32 lakh mt for the same period as compared to 119.13 mt in the corresponding period of the last year, the company statement said here today.

The company said its cement production for August stood at 23.77 lakh mt and 23.60 lakh mt, registering a growth of 17.10 per cent and 12.25 per cent over the samr period last year.

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) A few spells of rainfall today brought the much-needed relief to the people in the city but only for a few hours and later on, the day remained humid as usual. Meghalaya police arrest ANLF-A ultra

Shillong, Sept 3 (UNI) Meghalaya police have arrested a militant cadre and a closeaide of A'chik National Liberation Front - A leader Nobin K. Marak alias Mangkram from Dagal area in East Garo Hills district. Waildas N. Sangma, the ultra, was arrested on September 1, police said today. Police, however, did not recover any arms or ammunition from the arrested. Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the militant cadre. UNI.....

Motorcyclist killed in accident

Barrackpore, Sep 03 (UNI) A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident on VIP Road under Lake Town police station in North 24 Parganas district today. Police said the victim, a resident of Jagatpur of Baguiati, died on the spot. The driver, however, fled the spot soon after the incident. Country's exports up 18% in July

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Country's exports went up by 18.52 per cent to 12,494.11 million dollars in July-2007 from 10,542.14 million dollars in July 2006. However, in rupee terms, the increase was merely 3.10 per cent to Rs 50,493.57 crore, an official statement said today. Country's imports during July-2007 also registered an increase of 20.40 per cent to 17,508.63 million dollars from 14,542.21 million dollars in July-2006. NHRC notice to Gujarat, Rajasthan on child labour

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Governments of Gujarat and Rajasthan on reported trafficking of children, including girls, from the two states. Taking suo -motu cognizance of a news report, the Commission has directed the Chief Secretaries of Gujarat and Rajasthan to submit a factual report within four weeks. The Commission said the incident was a serious issue of violation of human rights of the children. According to the August 30.....
