Bank manager caught red-handed while taking bribe

Jaipur, Sep 3 (UNI) Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught red-handed Alwar Cooperative Land Development Bank, Behrod branch manager Satish Chandra Jain while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

Director General of Police (ACB) P K Tiwari said the bribe was demanded for expediting payment of the second installment of a loan sanctioned in favour of a relative of the complainant Subash Chandra Swami.

Meanwhile an ACB court in Ganganagar district has handed out two- year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 to a senior orthopaedician Dr Ramlal Goyal of the government hospital here. He was convicted in a case of demanding illegal gratification of Rs 800 for attending to a fracture in 2001 from one Poonam Chand Jain.

Essentials fast running out due to NH 31A blockade in Sikkim

Gangtok, Sep 3 (UNI) Essential supplies were fast depleting in Sikkim as efforts were on to clear the landslide near Coronation Bridge which had disrupted traffic along NH 31A for the past nine days. According to reports, kerosene, diesel and LPG stocks were in crisis at the sole Indian Oil Corporation(IOL) depot located at azitar near Rangpo, East Sikkim. No fresh supply of essential items had been made since the heavy landslide at NH 31A near Sevoke in West Bengal......

Landslide cuts off Queen of Hills

Darjeeling, Sep 3 (UNI) Landslide triggered by week-long torrents cut off Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills, from the rest of West Bengal. Darjeeling saw landslides at six places between Tindharia and Rong-Tong of Kurseong sub-division this morning. Landslips occurred at six places along National Highway 55, which connects Darjeeling with rest of the state. Tracks of the heritage toy train had also been affected. District police chief Rajesh Suborno told UNI that NH-55 had been closed since debris came.....

Air India to start Express services joining Kolkata with SE Asia

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) Air India will start an Express Service from October linking Kolkata with Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka, AIR India-Indian CMD V Thulasidas said here at the NSCBI Airport today. Mr Thulasidas, who is on a tour to the eastern region, denied allegations that the area was being neglected by the national airlines. The airlines will be using Boeing 747 Jet for the express service. AIR India is also holding talks with differnt airport authorities in.....
