Ashok Malhotra sent into police custody till Sep 12

New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) Special CBI judge S K Kaushik today sent Ashok Malhotra, the main accused in the multi-crore DDA land scam case, to judicial custody till September 12.

Yesterday, S C Garg, another accused in the case, was sent to judicial custody till September 12.

Arguments on their bail application will be heard on September 7.

The jail authorities had been instructed by the judge to provide special security to Malhotra and bring him separately from other prison inmates as a precautionary measure.

HC terms hostile witnesses' problem a cancer

Allahabad, Sep 3 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has observed that problem of hostile witnesses has become a cancer, which affECTS our legal system and appears to be virtually all pervasive in case of politically influential accused. The observation came, when the judgements involving public representatives sent by the trial courts was persuaded by the judges. Out of 66 judgements, received so far, as many as 65 had ended in acquittals. Such are cases mostly related to murders, robbery, dacoity, land grabbing,.....

Journalists sentenced to jail in defamation case

Lucknow, Sep 3 (UNI) A court today awarded jail terms to three journalists and two publisher-printers for publishing a defamatory article and interview. Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (customs) Suresh Chandra passed this order after admitting the complaint of senior IAS officer Anant Kumar Singh, the then district magistrate of Muzaffarnagar. Mr Singh is presently the secretary, medical education. The then journalist Raman Kripal has been sentenced to one year rigourous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000. 11 injured in Sikh-Sacha Sauda clash in Punjab, 33 booked

Mansa, Sep 3 (UNI) Eleven persons including two women were injured in a clash between followers of the Sirsa-based Sacha Sauda and Sikhs in Alampur Mandra village, 10 kms from here today. According to police sources, the injured included seven Dera supporters. The condition of one of the injured was stated to be serious.
