APUWJ demands action against police official

Hyderabad, Sep 3 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) asked State Home Minister K Jana Reddy to suspend Sub-Inspector of Police in Chowdepally of Chittoor district for allegedly manhandling a TV reporter.

In a statement here today, APUWJ Secretary Y Narender Reddy claimed SI Sankara Mallayya mandhandled Tirupathi Ravivarma while he was covering the Tirupati Town Bank Elections yesterday.

He wanted the Minister to inquire into the incident and instruct the District Superintendent of Police to suspend the SI.

Mr Reddy said the union would refer the issue to the High Power Committee, of which Home Minister was the chairman, to look into the attacks and assaults on journalists.

Centre to spend Rs 50,000 Cr for road connectivity in NE

Kolkata, Sep 3 (UNI) The Centre will spend Rs 50,000 crore in the next five years for road connectivity in the North Eastern region, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) and Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyer today said. Malda, Sep 3 (UNI) A man was arrested from a hotel in the town and an AK 56 rifle seized today. Police Superintendent Dilip Mondal said the arrested youth, belonging to Malda district under Bamangola Police Station in Pakuahat village, most probably had links with a militant organisation. ''But, we do not know exactly which. Interrogation is on.'' Incidentally majority of youths in Pakuahat are either associated with the Kamptapur Liberation Organisation or Maoists.
