12 killed, 20 injured in a road accident in Bharuch

Vadodara, Sep 3 (UNI) Twelve people were killed and more than 20 injured when a luxury bus collided head-on with a vehicle near Keshrol village on the Bharuch-Dahej road last night.

Police sources said, nine of the deceased, all labourers, were natives of Kanda in Jharkhand and were on their way to Dahej in the ill-fated Tata Sumo in search of work.

The victims from Jharkhand included Vinod Gunia and his wife Sarda Devi, and a three-member family of deceased Binduram Gunia.

All of them reportedly died on the spot.

According to Bharuch district superintendent of police Siddharth Khatri, the accident occurred after driver of the luxury bus carrying employees of GCPTL company to Bharuch lost control over the vehicle following a minor accident with a stranded truck near Keshrol village.

The speeding bus then collided head-on with Tata Sumo killing all its nine passengers and driver. As the bus too turned turtle, one passenger and driver of the vehicle also succumbed to their injuries, the DSP said.

Following the accident, Bharuch-Dahej remained blocked for a couple of hours and victims were rushed to Bharuch civil hospital, where condition of five, including two children, were stated to be critical.

Sources said the labourers had earlier in the evening reached Bharuch by train from Maharashtra and had taken Tata Sumo for Dajel to work in another construction project as contract labourers.
