Nine judokas to represent India in World Judo Championship

Patiala, Sep 1: Nine judokas will represent India at the World Judo Championship slated for September 13 to 16 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The five men and four women judokas, currently under training here at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), are: Men: Navjot Chana 60 kg (Punjab Police), Navdeep Chana 66 kg (Punjab Police), Rakesh Kumar 73 kg (Punjab Police), Sanjay Singh 90 kg (CRPF) and Yashpal Solanki 100 kg (Punjab Police).

Women: Tombi Devi 48 kg (CRPF), Aruna 52 kg (Haryana), Nidhi 57 kg (CRPF) and Garima Chowdhary 63 kg (UP).

Japan cabinet approves Tokyo 2016 Olympics bid

Tokyo, Sep 12: Japan's cabinet has approved Tokyo's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics and agreed the government will pay up to half the building costs, a spokesman said, clearing the way for the capital to file its candidacy. Tokyo is running against Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Prague, Chicago and Qatari capital Doha, with the deadline for applications on Sept. 13.
