K'taka invites global tender for BMIC project

Bangalore, Aug 30: Karnataka Cabinet today decided to invite global tender under Swiss Challenge based on a proposal submitted by Global Infrastructure Limited with regard to take up Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project after obtaining permission from the Supreme Court.

Announcing this to newsmen here after a cabinet meeting Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti said the decision followed a High Court decision while disposing off a writ petition on the issue in which the court had observed that excess of 20193 acres of land should not be given to those who executed the project.

Replying to queries he said the Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) with regard to implementation of the project and the state government would seek permission before inviting global tender. The government also decided to cancel some sub clauses of the framework agreement signed on 9/8/2002 with the NICE to prevent it from selling the land acquired from the government for the project.

Answering a query he said the NICE had taken over 6000 acres for the project so far. He clarified that NICE could also bid freshly along with others if it desired to execute the project within 20193 acres as specified earlier.
