Centre seeks report from Modi Govt on poll CD

New Delhi, Aug 29: The Centre has sought a report from the Gujarat Government over complaints by the cable operators of the state that they were being forced to show CDs on the achievements of the Narendra Modi government during prime time.

The state is going to polls in a few months.

''We have written a letter to the state government on the complaints of the cable operators,'' Secretary Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Asha Swaroop told sources on the sidelines of a seminar on broadcasting last night.

Earlier, Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi had assured that appropriate action would follow soon.

The copies of the CD have been sent to the Election Commission by the Cable Operators Federation of India(COFI), president of the federation Roop Sharma said.

''It was very unfortunate that the Gujarat government should be misusing official machinery like that. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting should take immediate action in the matter,'' she said.

The complainants had said they were asked by entertainment tax officials to screen poll campaign CDs called Vande Gujarat listing the achievements of the Modi government during the prime time from 1900 hrs to 2000 hrs.

Ms Sharma said COFI had also approached the PMO with copies of the CDs.
