Earthquake jolts Andaman Islands

Port Blair, Aug 26: An earthquake of moderate intensity jolted several parts of Andaman Islands this morning.

Met officials here said the quake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre near Andaman.

The tremor occurred at 1033 hrs and the epicentre was located at 14.6 degrees North latitude and 93.8 degrees East.

No damage or casualties were reported, Police Control Room officials said.

Beijing, May 22: A Chinese zoo is monitoring its animals extra carefully to study how their behaviour predicts earthquakes, the China Daily said today. Guangzhou Zoo, in the southern province of Guangdong, had set up observation points near peacocks, frogs, snakes, turtles, deer and squirrels to monitor and record their behaviour for the city's seismology office. Moderate intensity quake jolts Nicobar Islands

Port Blair, Jul 26: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck India's Nicobar Islands early this morning. But there were no reports of casualties or property damage, disaster control room officials told sources today. The tremor was focused at 07.4 degrees north latitude and 92.3 degrees east longitude, the release added.
