Shakurbasti-Rohtak rail track to be electrified

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) The Planning Commission has given its concurrence regarding the electrification of Shakurbasti-Rohtak section of railway track.

This was conveyed by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia in a communication addressed to Member Parliament from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda.

In a statement issued here today, Mr Deepender Singh Hooda said on the request of Haryana Government, the Ministry of Railways has got cleared the work of electrification of this section from Planning Commissioner at a cost of Rs 48 crore.

This, he said, is a 60 km long double track. The electrification of this track would result in improving efficiency and reduce pollution.

Mr Deepender said that with the electrification of this track, a long standing demand of the people would be fulfilled.

He said another project of construction of Rohtak-Jhajjar-Rewari railway line had been sanctioned and half of its cost would be borne by the Haryana government.

Apart from this, he said, the project to construct Sonepat-Jind railway line was under consideration of the Central Government.

He said the state government was prepared to bear half cost of even this project.

Maharashtra Agro Chem's license suspended

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) The Haryana government has suspended the insecticide manufacturing licence of Maharashtra Agro Chem Private Ltd, Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district with immediate effect for manufacturing and selling 'misbranded' insecticides. An official spokesman today said a committee of insecticide inspectors from the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Union Government, Faridabad inspected the unit and observed that few labelled, unlabelled and unauthorised containers were found stocked in a sealed room on the first floor of the factory premises. Ranganatittu bird scantury reopens after deluge

Mysore, Aug 21 (UNI) The famous Ranganatittu bird scantury, which was closed for tourists after it was inundated due to heavy discharge of water from Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir across Cauvery river two weeks ago, was reopened following decrease in flood levels. Boating services which were cancelled earlier also resumed. According to forest department officials the outflow of water from K R Sagar had been reduced to just 3900 cusecs following decrease in the rainfall in the catchment areas in Kodagu. UNI.....

Acid attack victim dies after 12-day battle for life

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) Losing a 12-day battle for life, Heena Fathima (23), who had sustained 90 per cent burns following an acid attack by her husband, succumbed to injuries at Victoria hospital in the city today.
