Agartala, Aug 21: After Kunjaban in Agartala, Oil Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC) has found another gas reservoir on western border of Tripura last week, which increased the business prospect of the company in the land lock part of the country.

The ONGC sources here today admitted that the primary investigation found a huge deposit of hydrocarbon in the exploratory well at remote Sundalbari area along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Tripura, where the drill was initiated in April last and had flowed gas from two sand formations at 85,000 and 80,000 cubic metres rate a day.

''Our initial investigation established the presence of gas in Sundalbari but the matter has been referred to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons to finalise our observation,'' officials stated.

According to the report, Sundalbari-2 exploratory well was a nomination Block of the ONGC and the geological inputs and earth crust had drawn the attention of the company some three years ago but due to procedural bottlenecks delayed the discovery.

The ONGC had struck gas at Kunjaban, within seven kilometres periphery of the capital town in May last and exploratory well established a flow rate of 2.3 lakh cubic metres through conventional testing methods.

It had already established approximately 54 billion cubic metres of in-place gas reserve from seven fields (excluding Kunjaban and Sundalbari) identified in the state and the recoverable reserve was pegged at 28 billion cubic metres.

The ONGC had already established recoverable gas reserves in Baramura, Gozalia, Manakyanagar, Agartala Dome, Trichina and two other spots in West Tripura but the work was resumed in Baramura hill range after a long break, which had stalled due to militant activities.
