Olympic champion Olsson to miss world champs

OSAKA, Japan, Aug 21 (Reuters) Olympic triple jump gold medallist Christian Olsson has pulled out of the world athletics championships through injury, organisers said today.

The Swede aggravated an injury to his left hamstring during training in Japan on Monday for the Aug. 25-Sept. 2 championships in Osaka.

''I just felt something go in the back of the thigh,'' the 27-year-old said. ''It feels very heavy now but I've been through many injuries before and I will come back.'' Olsson, who also missed the 2005 world championships in Helsinki, tore his hamstring during the Golden League meeting in Rome last month.

The 2003 world champion is now set to sit out the rest of the season to concentrate on returning to full fitness.
