Mounting debts; husband kills wife and two children

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) Police today said the death of a mother and two children in a cylinder blast at suburban Porur yesterday was a murder not a suicide as persumed earlier.

According to post-mortem reports, police said the three were strangled to death.

Accused Mohanasundaram, who was undergoing treatment for burns, had killed his wife and two children due to mounting debts, police said.

In his confession, he had told his wife that it was better to commit suicide due to mounting debts than to face the wrath of the debtors.

As his wife opposed this idea, he killed them and later attempted to commit suicide by blasting the cylinder, police said.
