Meghalaya police open fire

Shillong, Aug 20: Meghalaya police resorted to indiscriminate firing today to disperse an angry mob, which went on the rampage and torched three houses belonging to a tribal family, whom they suspected of practising witchcraft.

The incident occurred at Mawbsein village in Ri-Bhoi district, about 50 km from here, when angry villagers torched the house and vehicles of the family, police said.

Police, however, are yet to confirm any casualty in the firing.

Australian aid of $330,000 for HIV/AIDS progs in NE

New Delhi, May 22: Australia announced an additional aid of 330,000 USD for the HIV/AIDS and drugs prevention programmes in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram.
