K'taka govt embarks on novel quality assessment of schools

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) For the first time in the country, Karnataka has done a quality assessment of government schools to improve standard of education, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti said today.

Releasing the report for the second year, he said in all 20,671 schools covering 10.35 lakh students of third, fifth and seventh standards were covered during 2006-07. For the first time 1.43 lakh students studying in 3,981 Urdu schools were also covered.

He said over 16.25 lakh students studying in second, fifth and seventh standards were covered during 2005-06.

He said a comparative study of schools with last year's results had revealed that there had been improvement of 14 per cent in results.

He said students of all media studying in fifth and seventh standards of all government and aided schools would be covered during 2007-08.
