HC reserves order on petition seeking CBI probe

Kochi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today reserved orders on a petition filed by one Prabhavathy Amma, seeking a direction to the CBI to conduct further investigation into the death of her son under police custody.

Prabhavathy, mother of Udayakumar, a native of Keezharanoor, Nedumangad, had filed a petition seeking CBI probe into the case, as the prosecution witnesses, who were policemen, turned hostile during the trial of the case.

The counsel for the petitioner contended before Mr Justice V Ramkumar that the investigation conducted by the state police was not proper so further investigation by the CBI was necessary.

The Director General of Prosecution argued that the investigation by the state was complete, perfect and legal.

The counsel for the CBI submitted that there was no legal impediment of conducting investigation in the case.

Udayakumar, 28, had died in custody at Fort Police Station on September 27, 2005 allegedly due to excessive physical torture by the three accused policemen.
