SINGAPORE, Aug 21 (Reuters) Gold was steady on Tuesday after rising the previous day on a weaker dollar against the euro, while Tokyo futures were firmer although a firmer yen could limit gains.

-- Spot gold was at $657.90/658.70 an ounce, hardly moved from $657.60/658.20 late in New York on Monday, when it gained more than $2 an ounce.

-- Most active June 2008 gold futures <0JAU:> on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange rose 3 yen per gram to 2,451 yen.

-- The yen edged higher against the dollar on Tuesday, taking a pause in its broad-base slide in the past session after last week's cut in the Federal Reserve's discount rate triggered a strong recovery in global share prices.

-- The dollar dipped to 114.75 yen from levels in late U.S. trade, but stayed well above a 14-month trough of 111.60 yen struck on Friday. The euro eased against the dollar to $1.3460 from $1.3475.

-- Platinum rose to $1,241/1,246 an ounce from $1,240.50/1,247.50 in New York.

-- Silver edged up to $11.75/11.78 an ounce from $11.73/12.76 an ounce.

-- Palladium was steady at $328/333 an ounce.
