APMC Act was amended under pressure from Centre: CM

Gulbarga, Aug 21 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today alleged that the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees Act (APMC)was amended due to pressure from the Centre.

Laying foundation stone for the construction of a Vegetable and Fruits wholesale market at a cost of Rs 7.8 crore at Sultanpur near here, the Chief Minister, however, allied all fears over the amendment saying that it was done keeping the interests of farmers and agricultural labourers in mind.

Following the amendement, the Centre would provide funds for the development of APMC yards in the state, he added.

He said the state government was keen to construct an airport in Gulbarga to attract industrialists to the region.

Earlier, the Chief Minister assured the agitating corporation workers to look into their demand for regularisation.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
