Ambedkar idol's desecration creates tension

Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Jamania area of Ghazipur district today, following desecration of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar's idol.

According to police, the incident occurred late last night at village Baruin, where the idol was vandalised by some anti-social elements.

Irated over the incidents, a mob took to street and blocked the Jamania-Saiyyadraja road, leading to traffic snarls for a couple of hours.

The demonstrators could only be pacified after senior officials got the desecrated idol repaired and assured stringent action against the accused.

Meanwhile, PAC in strength had been deployed to prevent fresh violence.

A manhunt had been launched to arrest the absconding persons behind the incident.

Ghazipur, Apr 7: Two criminals, including the kingpin of an inter-district loot gang, were arrested and booty worth Rs several thousand were seized from their possession in Dulehpur area here. The duo, including syndicate head Ramji alias Ramjeet and Bahadur Gaur, were nailed down last night, police said today. Booty, comprising Rs 50,000 cash and jewellery, were seized from them, the police added. UP: Three undertrails escape jail

Ghazipur, Mar 25: Three murder accused escaped from the high security Ghazipur district jail late last night, official sources said today. Dhiraj Singh, Anand Singh and Pramod Singh broke the toilet ventilator and jumped off about 25 ft high wall, district jail superintendent P K Shukla said.
