CPM will have no truck with 'pro-imperialist' BJP: Karat

New Delhi, Aug 19: CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today ruled out joining hands with the BJP on the Indo-US nuclear deal, saying his party 'will not have any truck with the 'pro-imperialist' outfit.'

''The six-year of record of the BJP-led government is infamous for its kowtowing to the US, the secret talks between Jaswant Singh and Strobe Talbot, the visit of L K Advani to the CIA headquarters and the eagerness of the NDA to become a 'natural ally' of the US to the extent of considering to send Indian troops to Iraq... this will not be forgotten by the Indian people,'' Mr Karat said in a statement.

He said BJP president Rajnath Singh had charged the Left parties with not being serious about their opposition to the nuclear deal and cited their unwillingness to support the BJP on the issue as proof.

Mr Karat said the Left parties' opposition to the nuclear cooperation agreement with the US went back to 2005 when the Left did not share its views with the BJP and its approach for bargaining with the US for a favourable nuclear adjustment while accepting the status of a subordinate ally of the country.

''The CPI(M) is certain not to have truck with such a pro-imperialist party,'' Mr Karat asserted.
