"Mountain Man" creamated with full state honour

Gaya, Aug 18 (UNI) Mortal remains of Dasrath Manjhi, the famous ''Mountain man'' from Gaya district in Bihar, who had passed away at AIIMS in New Delhi yesterday after a protracted illness were consigned to flames here today at Gahlore mountain with full state honour and the rituals of the Kabir-Panth.

Those who took part in the funeral along with the family members of Mr Manjhi were Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Uday Narain Chaudhry, State Energy Minister Vijendar Yadav, MLA Ajay Paswan, Kunti Devi, Former MP Ramji Manjhi, Former MLA Phoolchand Manjhi, D M (Gaya) Jitendar Srivastav and SDM Navjit Ranjan Tiwari.

Dasarath Manjhi was a pathfinder, who had created the sensation by single-handedly carving a three-km-long road through the Gahlore mountain in Gaya district of South Bihar. He had achieved the unbelievable feat through sheer hard work and determination for more than three decades.

He was suffering from cancer for sometime and was under treatment in AIIMS. The cost of his treatment was incurred by the Bihar Goverment.

Indo-Japanese surrogate baby in legal tussle

Jaipur, Aug 6: The future of a Japanese baby, born of an Indian surrogate mother is uncertain after her parents divorced. Because Indian law prohibits the child's divorced father from taking custody of her. Manjhi, the nine-day old baby's future is left in uncertainty. Her parents came to India a year ago and had hired the services of a surrogate mother in Ahmedabad, but during the pregnancy, the couple divorced. Soon after the baby was born, serial bombings took place in Ahmedabad.....
