Zee TV reporter dies in freak incident in Himachal Pradesh

Manali, Aug 12 (UNI) Senior Zee television reporter Shobana Singh died after being washed away by the strong currents of water in the Shatru nallah, about 19 km from Koksar on NH-21, in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh last evening.

Police reports from Keylong today said the body of the TV reporter was recovered about 10 metres below the highway in the nallah. The body was buried under a heap of mud and boulders that had been brought down by the waters in the nallah.

Shobana along with a cameraman and the driver of a vehicle were proceeding to Chandertal Lake in Lahaul and Spiti to take shots of a possible meteor shower which was supposed to occur in the region.

Reports said while they were crossing the Shatru nallah the vehicle broke down in the swirling water.

Sensing the danger, the driver and cameraman managed to run to safety after abandoning the vehicle. Shobana too tried to get away but she was swept off by the strong water current and the debris that had been brought down from the higher reaches.

The driver and the cameraman then contacted the police authorities at Koksar. But due to heavy rains in the area it was not possible to carry out any rescue operations yesterday evening.

The police party reached the spot this morning and after locating the body managed to retrieve it. The body will be taken to New Delhi later in the day.
