TMB to open 50 branches by Nov: CEO

Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Aug 12: The Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) will approach the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for permission to open 50 new branches by November this year, a top official has said. Speaking on the occassion of the opening of its 189th branch at Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, TMB Managing Director and CEO G Naraya Moorthy said the bank was on an expansion spree and its network would increse to 200 by November 2007. It would open 15 branches in Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The bank had introduced more retail products such as TMB Traders, TMB Education, TMB Tractor and TMB Easy Mortgage among others to target retail advances carrying a 'low' interest rate compared to other banks.

The bank had networth of Rs 759 crore as on March 31, 2007, he said and added it had recommended a dividend of 1,000 per cent for 2005-06 and 2006-07.

TTD to hold 'kalyanotsavams' on Aug 28

Tirupati, Aug 12 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will be conducting Sri Padmavathi Srinivasa Kalyanotsavams at 147 centres in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Orissa on August 28 in connection with Sravana Pournima, TTD Trust Board Chairman B Karunakar Reddy said here today. Addressing the press, Mr Reddy said 'Sri Padmavathi Srinivasa Kalayana Rakshaka Kankanalu' will be distributed to devotees who participate in the kalaynotsavams.Disciples from mutts and bajana mandals would take part in the event, he added. 'LTTE, Lanka peace talks look bleak'

Chennai, Aug 12: Sri Lankan Leader of Opposition Ranil Wickremasinghe today said the prospects of peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and LTTE seem to be bleak, considering the present situation. Talking to reporters at the airport here, he said the present government in Sri Lanka should take immediate measures to improve the economic situation in the country, which had suffered a setback due to the current ethnic war. Asked whether there would be any new peace initiative.....

Flood warning continues at Prakasam Barrage

Vijayawada, Aug 12 (UNI) Though discharge of surplus flood water from Nagarjunasagar to Prakasam Barrage due to heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas slightly decreased today, the first flood warning given by the Irrigation Department here last night for people downstream of the barrage was still operational following the release of more water into the sea. Irrigation Department sources told UNI that about 4.12 lakh cusecs of surplus water was let into the sea at 1100 hrs and 17,495 cusecs.....
