Srikrishna Commission report will be implemented: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Aug 12 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the Srikrishna Commission report will be implemented and necessary steps taken in this regard.

Mr Deshmukh today met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and apprised them of the state government's stand and position on the report, an official release here said.

After the meeting, the Chief Minister told reporters in New Delhi that many NGOs and associations had shown their displeasure to the government's attempt of implementing the report and some of the organisations had filed PIL in the Supreme Court in this regard.

The Maharashtra government will appoint various cells for the implementation of the report, the release said.

The State government has received many complaints regarding the report which will be investigated by the government. ''Since the report is in court purview, the timeframe for the implementation of the report or any other details cannot be decided now,'' the release added.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
