Vijayawada, Aug 12 (UNI) As part of the nation-wide protest, 'Ram Sethu Samrakshana Samithi' today organised token fasts in various places in the city pressurising the UPA Government to stop the ''destruction'' of the Ram Sethu (Adam's Bridge).
Several people, mostly women took part in the protest.
Samithi leaders criticised the government's decision to approve with the 'Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project' by destroying the historical monument.
The decision hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindus across the world, they claimed.
A 'Chalo Rameswaram' call had been given by the Samithi to organise a major congregation at Rameswaram on August 26, they said adding several religious leaders and Hindu saints would take part in the programme.
If the government failed to protect Ram Sethu, the Samithi would launch more agtitations, they warned.
