Police move Court seeking permission to file cases

Hyderabad, Aug 12 (UNI) The city police sought permission from a local court to register cases against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) floor leader Akberuddin Owaisi and Majlis Bachao Tehreek leader Majidullah Khan for threatening the Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen that 'she would be beheaded if she visits Hyderabad again'.

According to police sources here, they sought the court's permission to book cases against Mr Owaisi and Mr Khan based on their statements shown in news bulletins of various news channels immediately after the AIMIM MLAs attacked the writer while she was participating in a book release function at Press club in the city on August 9.

Police had filed a petition in the court, along with the news clippings, seeking permission to initiate action against the Majlis leaders under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

Police are expecting the court's permission tomorrow.

Police had registered a case against Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, under Section 153 (A) for promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, based on a complaint from Akbaruddin Owaisi.
