Left stand over nuclear deal 'eye wash': Mulayam

Lucknow, Aug 12: Terming the Left parties opposition over the issue an ''eye wash'', the Samajwadi Party has strongly opposed the the Indo-US Nuclear deal.

Announcing that United National Progressive Alliance(UNPA) will hold a massive rally in New Delhi next month to protest against the deal with the US, party president Mulayam Singh Yadav here said the role of the Left Parties in the entire issue has been ''anti-people''.

''They should not just bark, but they should also bite,'' he said while referring to the Left's stand over the deal.

He also questioned how the Left parties can act as opposition while on other hand do everything to save the government.

Criticising the role of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the deal, Mr Yadav said he has ''ditched'' the friendly countries like Iran, Iraq and others after ''surrendering before the US'' by signing the nuclear agreement.

He further said the party would oppose the deal in Parliament, adding a country-wide agitation will be launched by eight-party combine UNPA on the issue.

''I have already discussed the issue with Chandra Babu Naidu, Ms Jayalalitha, Om Prakash Chautala and other leaders and they too have supported my views,'' the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said.

BJP delegation meets PM on Indo-US nuclear deal

New Delhi, July 26: The BJP today refused to comment on the Indo-US Nuclear deal, saying that it would give its formal reaction only after seeing the full contents of the agreement. "We can give our comment on after ascertaining whether our concerns have been met and the assurances given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha over the nuclear deal have been fulfilled," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said, after a high-level.....
