Kumble leaves behind McGrath in Test bowling charts

London, Aug 12 (UNI) Anil Kumble went past Aussie Glenn McGrath to become the third highest wicket-taker in Test history when he claimed Monty Panesar's wicket to end the England first innings at The Oval here today.

Kumble, who scored his maiden Test century on Friday, has so far accumulated 564 wicktes.

The 36-year-old leg-spinner, India's leading wicket-taker in Tests, lies at third place after Australian counterpart Shane Warne (708) and Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (700) in the all-time bowlers' chart.

McGrath, who quit international cricket after the World Cup, has 563 Test wickets to his credit.

Kumble, playing in his 117th Test, also improved his total international scalps to 901 -- including 337 from ODIs -- with his 564th scalp today.

He is the first Indian and fifth overall to accomplish the rare feat of having more than 900 international wickets.

Muralitharan (1157), Warne (1001), McGrath (949) and Pakistan's Wasim Akram (916) are the other four bowlers in the exclusive club.
