JKLF chief Malik, other leaders have encounter with death

Srinagar, Aug 12 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and other leaders had a close encounter with death when the brakes of a Safar-e-Azadi ( journey to freedom) truck in which they were travelling failed.

A spokesman of the JKLF said brakes of Safar-e-Azadi truck failed in which Malik and other senior leaders were travelling on way to Chowkibal from border area of Tangdhar in north Kashmir.

However, the truck driver's quick presence of mind and courage saved the lives of JKLF leaders, including Malik, he said.

Mr Malik and other JKLF leaders later reached Chowkibal safely in another vehicle.

The front has started a Safar-E-Azadi from Kokernag in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on May 20, 2007 to generate support to JKLF's slogan '' Kashmiri first for Kashmir resolution.'' It had so far covered Kulgam, Anantnag, Kokernag, Pulwama, Shopian and Tral in south Kashmir, Charar-e-Sharief and about a dozen areas in central Kashmir district of Badgam. Now the JKLF Safar-e-Azadi has reached north Kashmir, including border areas.

C'garh drives the naxal national average: Patil

New Delhi, Mar 14: The increased incidence of ultra activities in Chhattisgarh has shot up the ''naxal national average'', spreading a scare across the country, Home Minister Shivraj Patil told Rajya Sabha today.Answering the question of Mr Vijay J Darda (Congress), Mr Patil said during the question hour that there was a 47 per cent increase in naxal activities and 56 per cent rise in killings in the state.The sprawling shrub forests and hilly terrains provided an ideal locale for ''growth.....
