Incessant rainfall abates in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Aug 12 (UNI) Incessant rains that lashed Kolhapur for the last few days abated today.

The sun shone for a while in the morning and people came out to bask in it.

People residing at the banks of the Panchaganga river gave a sigh of relief after its swollen waters started receding. Heavy rains and rising water level had created panic among the people residing near the river during the last few days.

The river continues to be in spate, but its water level today lowered slightly. It is flowing at the height of 40.4 feet, which is still above warning mark, district collectorate spokesman said here today.

About 4,600 cusecs of water was discharged from three automatic gates of Radhanagari dam, he said and added that the district has recorded a total rainfall of 318.6 mm during the last 24 hours ended this morning.

Three villages -- Rajapur, Rajapurwadi and Khidrapur -- in Shirol tehsil of the district continue to be cut off for the sixth consecutive day today, he added.

M'shtra: Rains damage Rs 21.54 cr worth crops

Kolhapur, Aug 01: An estimated Rs 21.54 crore worth crops have been damaged due to floods and rains in the last two months in this district. District Acting Collector D D Valvi told reporters here today that the district administration completed the 'panchanamas' of various crops damaged on 9,231 hectares of land during June-July rains. A total of 2,576 hectare paddy crops, 2,368 hectare sugarcane crops, about 1,612 hectare soyabean, 1,082 hectare groundnut were.....
