CM honours meritorious students of HP

Shimla, Aug 12 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh honoured the meritorious students of the state at the 'Pratibha Semman Samaroh' organised by Hindi daily 'Amar Ujala' here today.

The students were those who had passed out with flying colours in the annual examinations conducted by the HP Board of School Education, CBSE and ICSE.

He congratulated the prize-winning students for their achievements and also the management of the Hindi daily for organising such a function.

The Chief Minister said that concerted efforts, visionary policies and programmes of the successive Congress governments in the state had been instrumental in carrying speedy development in all the sectors.

He said that the hard work by the people of the state had resulted in the uniform and balanced development of the state. He said that a backward hilly state of the country had emerged a role model for the rest of the states.

Mr Singh said that making progress even after gaining the maximum heights was the thumb rule for progress. He said that besides other achievements and opting for modernization, the customs, traditions and civilizations needed to be protected.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
