MP: Blind students assault cops

Gwalior, Aug 12: Passersby and police personnel have been injured after visually-challenged students went berserk during a protest against accumulation of mud in areas adjoining an Andh Ashram due to municipal corporation water tankers being filled from a tap in the hostel premises.

Police brought the situation under control and took the students into custody. Earlier yesterday, the Madhav Andh Ashram students attempted to block the Gwalior-Jhansi road and several of them used their canes on the personnel. The students misbehaved with a tanker driver and smashed a vehicle's panes.

''Public Health Engineering officials have been directed to relocate the tap,'' said Additional District Magistrate Ved Prakash Sharma. No case was registered. Ashram Secretary Surya Prakash Johri has resigned. About 70 students are enrolled in the Ashram.
