Bharachukki Jalapatha Utsav attracts huge crowd

Mysore, Aug 12 (UNI) The Jalapatha Utsav (water falls festival) held famous Barachukki near Shivanasamundram in the neighbouring Chamarajanagar district, where Cauvery river cascades in a splendourous fashion from a height over over 400 feet, attracted a huge crowd.

Barachukki falls is considered as one of the most attractive water falls in the world offers an amazing sight of a massive water column plummeting down the steep cliff with a defening and unending roar.

The two-day Utsav is organised by the state government to promote the tourist atrractions in the backward Chamarajanagar district.

A large number of the tourists from the different parts of the state gathered to watch the splendour of the falls following the heavy discharges from both the Cauvery and Kabini reservoirs. More one lakh cusces of water was cascading down the falls today.

Speaking on the occasion the Kannada and Culture Minister Mahadeva Prasad announced that the government would develop of the spot by providing basic faclities to the tourists. The concept of such utsav would be extended to other parts of the state in order to encourage the tourism, he added.

11 Sabarimala pilgrims killed as bus falls into gorge in Kerala

Kottayam (Kerala), Feb 17 (ANI): Eleven Sabarimala pilgrims were killed and 40 others injured when a bus fell into a gorge near Erumeli town in Kerala's Kottayam District in the wee hours on Tuesday.The victims were on their way to the Sabarimala hill shrine when the bus carrying 60 pilgrims slipped into a 50-foot gorge while it was passing the narrow Pampa Valley road.All victims are hailing from Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari District.The injured are undergoing treatment.....
