SBI ATMs to touch 25,000 in 3 years

New Delhi, Aug 4: Country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) today said it plans to increase its ATMs from existing 7,200 to 25,000 within three years and card issuance to one million per month.

''We are aiming to increase the number of ATMs to 25,000 from the existing 7,200 within next three years and will issue cards to one million customers per month,'' Bank's Chairman O P Bhatt said in a statement.

The bank with total assets of Rs 5,66,565 crore and deposits of Rs 4,35,521 crore recorded a profit of Rs 4,521 crore on March 31, 2007.

It has a vast network of 9,517 branches and staff strength of nearly 2 lakh.

SBI employee arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 24: Tripura police has arrested a senior officer of State Bank of India (SBI) yesterday following allegations of cheating a customer in Meghalaya last year. Police said the accused officer was identified as Bidhan Chandra Chakma, presently posted at Bijoy Kumar Chowmuhani branch of SBI Regional Manager office. According to police, Mr Chakma embezzled the money of a customer who had deposited the amount for a cash certificate last.....
