WBPCC urges Sonia for Priyadarshan Dasmunshi as State President

New Delhi, August 3 (UNI) A three-member Congress delegation from the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) led by former Calcutta Mayor Subroto Mukherjee today called on the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and requested her to appoint the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyadarshan Dasmunshi as the PCC President.

It would place the party in a proper footing against the Left Front in the coming Panchayat election, he told Ms Gandhi.

Later, talking to newsmen, Mr Mukherjee said it would also help the party to set up a parallel leadership against the Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.

Ms Gandhi listened to their demand patiently for nearly 20 minutes and said she will take the appropriate decision when the time will come, he said.

The other members in the team include Abdul Mannan and Debabroto Basu.

K'taka to aim 4.5% growth in agri under XI Plan

Rescue teams continue effort to save boy

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 3 (UNI) The district administration and rescue teams swung into action to save a five-year-old boy who fell into a 30-foot deep borewell under construction in Botlaguduru Village at Pamuru Mandal of Prakasham District today. Noted critic, writer Sarojani Vaidya passes away

Pune, Aug 3 (UNI) Noted critic and writer of Marathi literature Sarojani Vaidya passed away after a brief illness at the local hospital here today. She was 74 and is survived by her husband and a son Niranjan. She was the wife of Shankar Vaidya who is also a renowned Marathi poet and writer.
