WBJEE scam continues to plague medical colleges

Siliguri, Aug 3 (UNI) Unfolding of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) scam that already shaken the credibility of higher educational system deepened further as one more student of North Bengal Medical College and his father have been arrested by the Detective officials on Wednesday.

Kumar Singh Roy, a resident of Sonarpur of south 24 Paraganas, took admission to North Bengal Medical College (NBMC) in first year of this session. The classes have been started since August 1, but Kumar is absent from the very first day. Suspecting some hidden causes, the College authorities made contact with his family and came to know that he was being arrested allegedly involved with the scam. Another student Sisir Jha is also suspected to have some involvement with the same case.

Dean of the medicine department of NBMC Dr Samar Deb told UNI that Kumar and Sisir, both are absent since the session started.

An intelligence source said that Dr Mihir Jha is one of the master-mind of the scam, was already arrested and Sisir is his brother. But police started investigation to know that the student of NBMC -Sisir and Mihir's brother Sisir, whether they are same or not. A source of Detective Department, Kolkata, said the interrogation of the father and son revealed that Brindaban Singh Roy, father of Kumar Singh Roy had allegedly paid Rs.6 lakh to an agency of Bangaluru to get the better rank for his son.

Kumar got enrollment in the NBMC. Both Kumar and his father Brindaban Singh Roy were arrested in connection with the racket.

Retd Lt Col of Ugandan army arrested near Jammu cant

Jammu, Aug 3 (UNI) A retired officer of Ugandan army was arrested under suspicious circumstances near high-security cantonment here at Satwari today, official sources said. ''He revealed his name as Lt Col Rashid Hasan (retd), and had worked for Ugandan army for 15 years,'' the sources told UNI. Lt Col Hasan, who was caught wearing safari suit and round white cap, disclosed that he had taken exile after his father was executed by the Uganda government......

CR to run special trains for Ganpati festival

Mumbai, Aug 3 (UNI) Central Railway today announced it will run 30 'Reserved Specials' and 16 'Unreserved Specials' to cope up with the extra rush of passengers during the Ganpati Festival. The booking for the reserved special service will be open from August 6 at all railway computerised booking centres, a CR release said here today. While reserved specials will run between September 12 and 18, and then again between September 22 and 30, the unreserved.....

Irregularities in MDM programme unearthed.

Sambalpur, Aug 3 (UNI) Bargarh district collector Harihara Panigrahi has ordered a Social Welfare Officer (SWO) to deposit Rs 75,000 with the Orissa government for his involvement in the mid day Meal(MDM) scam. Mr Panigrahi ordered this after detecting anomalies of nearly Rs two crore in the MDM programme in the district and fixed responsibility on the programme-in-charge. He had directed former district social welfare officer Ganeswar Panda to deposit Rs 75,000 with the government. The.....
