Two clerics of Barelvi sect killed in mishap near Chandrapur

Nagpur, Aug 3 (UNI) Two clerics of the Barelvi sect were killed in a mishap in Chandrapur district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.

According to the police, the clerics, identified as Tahesin Khan Raza (80) and Zahir Khan Raza (65), were killed when the car they were travelling in went out of control and took a tumble near Warora in the district. A third cleric, identified as Qari Imran Khan (45), was hurt seriously and has been rushed to hospital here. The driver of the car, whose name could not be ascertained, sustained minor injuries, the police said.

The three clerics, all residents of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh (UP), were on their way from Nagpur to Chandrapur by road to attend a function there, sources said.

They had arrived in Nagpur earlier in the day by air from New Delhi and had left for Chandrapur after attending a function here, they said.

The bodies were brought to Nagpur after post mortem, and would be flown to New Delhi by air tomorrow morning, the sources added.

BERLIN, Aug 3 (Reuters) Media outlets and a press freedom advocacy group today condemned an investigation by German state prosecutors into 17 journalists suspected of violating state secrecy laws. EU executive sees no pan-EU fallout from IKB

BRUSSELS, Aug 3 (Reuters) - The European Commission is monitoring closely the multi-billion euro rescue of Germany's IKB bank but sees no pan-European implications from the problem, the European Union's executive said today.
