Top seed Davydenko out of Sopot Open with foot injury

SOPOT, Poland, Aug 3 (Reuters) Top seed and defending champion Nikolay Davydenko bowed out of the Sopot Open after retiring with a foot injury.

Russian Davydenko conceded his second round match to Martin Vasallo Arguello with the Argentine ahead 2-6 6-3 2-1.

''I couldn't run after first set so I decide to withdraw. I have to recover as soon as possible,'' Davydenko said.

Vasallo Arguello plays Albert Montanes in the quarter-finals after the Spaniard overcame Mariano Zabaleta 4-6 6-3 7-5.

Number two seed Tommy Robredo of Spain prevailed after a fierce battle with Belgian qualifier Steve Darcis, winning 1-6 6-0 6-5 to set up a meeting with Austrian Stefan Koubek.

Tide sweeps away dozens in China

Beijing, Aug 3: At least 11 people are missing after a tidal current in southeastern China swept more than 30 people out to sea, state media said. Twenty-two people were rescued after the tide rushed up the mouth of the Qiantang River on the outskirts of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, the China News Service said on Friday, citing local police.
